Bump for discount on TiVo's. Got an e-mail a few days ago.

Bump, to update for current TiVo issues.

There are no current TiVo issues. Working great. Still a crapload better than whatever FIOS might have, and, besides the $5/month "rental" on the SIM card, no additional costs to me.
I'd cut the cord, but we like watching TV too much.

I've recently decided I want to go back to TiVo after 6-months of using Comcast's X1 system. The X1 box is actually pretty nice when it's working right. However, far too often it gets laggy. Press number, wait 5 seconds, number shows up. Lag is really frustrating FF/REW through recorded shows.

I also miss having Amazon/Netflix/Youtube available right there in my interface. It's not a big deal to switch over to the PS4, but the convenience of the Roamio is nice.

All of this coupled with the fact that Tivo is bringing the Skipmode feature from the Bolt to the Roamio really makes me want to switch back.

TiVo also has a "fast play" mode (can't recall the exact name), where you can see AND hear everything all speeded up. Probably great for golf and baseball. Women's soccer, too.

Skip mode is awesome, though it only works on recorded programs, and, at this time, it is not available on the Mini (though I don't think it should take much of an update to allow it on the Mini).

The skip mode is great.

The weird thing is that the skip mode starts to work on some shows that were recorded over one year ago. Not complaining there.

Update: It's available on our Mini now.

Has Rovi decided whether or not it is a patent troll yet?

If they are actually interested in ongoing platform and product development this could be good for TiVo, but if not it's the beginning of a long and sad death spiral.
