Romney picking Ryan is voluntarily choosing to associate himself with the Ryan budget. I can't think of any VP pick more associated with a particular policy, ever. Sure, he needs to say he's his own man just to say it, but it's meaningless. Backing down from any of its major tenants (Medicare premium support, the 10%/25% tax plan, eliminating corporate income, dividend, capital gains taxes) during the campaign is untenable. As for what happens post election in a Romney-Ryan world, anybody's guess. Candidates, for better or worse, never deliver on what they promise.
