I'm considering getting one. I have a HTPC that we view directly but I think it would be nice to get one of these fanless boxes so its easier for the wife and kid to use. Fire seems to be the best such box available right now. Plus my xbox RRODed recently so it would be nice to have a gaming systen.

Me too.

But early reports are not very promising; plex app has some settings for dts and such , but no audio etc. Hopefully, in two months people will have it sorted out.

Better than nothing. I'm not spending $400 on a current gen or wasting money on another xbox which will die on me.

I figure it's only a matter of time till they port the Ouya games over.

?? Can you explain that a little more? The plex app was one of the main requirements for me. But I use XBMC now so not 100% familiar.

My rationalization for the purchase is that the PS3's wifi sucks. Assuming this will be higher performance, and there seemed to be more apps/channels than the PS3 has.

If you have your own video content (.mkv files) with dts audio tracks, then you get the video but no sounds, also playback is not very smooth; just like in chromecast. fire-tv comes with plex, but that is one of the problems. It appears that installing xbmc on it is easier but there were some green screen etc.

I have a lot more playing around to do, but it played my videos from Plex just fine, smooth, with audio. I saw some early reports of it not passing through 5.1 DTS audio, but not of no audio. But as far as I know there is not a FireTV specific Plex app, it's just the standard Android app and the Plex guys were not involved beforehand. I would expect now that they have one in hand there will be FireTV specific updates coming.
