Default Stupidest scam yet

You know those phone calls claiming to be from Microsoft and they want to "fix" your service? Today the recorded message informed me that my MS service had expired and that everything on my computer was disabled. Then they gave me a phone number to call.

I checked my computer and it's working fine. Do people really call that number without checking first?

[aside] why isn't Microsoft (the real one) doing more to shut down these lying scammers?[/aside]

What do you imagine Microsoft could do to shut them down?

Would you like Microsoft to listen to all the phone calls in the world and automatically cut off the scammers' calls?

Yeah, and why hasn't the real prince of Nigeria done anything useful to stop all those impostors?

Doesn't he even care about the $2000 I wired him?

I like that you even checked your computer.

I sometimes play with these scammers and tell them that I have several computers, so which one is having the service issue.

I play with them by acting dumb and asking ridiculous questions. "My computer told you it was having problems? How did it tell you? Did it call you on the phone? Did it email you? I'm going to have to have a talk with that computer and tell it to stop contacting people without my permission."

I've had a few hang up on me, and one even swore at me, when I've done that.

I mess around with them, too.

"Oh, no! I really need my computer. I do all of my banking and investing with it! All of personal information is on there. Please help!"

Then I pretend to take the steps they ask me to do.

The call lasts varying times. Sometimes I hear them laughing in the background. I can picture the scene, some foreign guy waving his arms in the room, "hey, guys! I got one!" as they crowd around...

More than once I was called an M-f'er when they realized I was not playing along...

Side note: my wife got that very same call yesterday.

And the ironic part, I guess, is that we don't even have a Windoze machine. An iMac, a couple of iPads, several iPhones and a few Chomebooks.
