"OOOOH, you mean my work laptop? Oh, I better call our IT dept"

I would keep staying on the line until they hung up on me. I never hung up myself... what would it take before they realized they were going to get nowhere

It took me literally years to convince my parents to stop answering unknown calls. I always told them if it was important they'd leave a message. AFAIK, they don't answer such calls anymore...I hope so at least.

I always answer them.

It's fun to pretend I'm interested in solar panels or that I desperately want to take care of that outstanding IRS tax bill.

This is a lot harder to do now that all the calls are pre-recorded. Like the one in the OP, that gave a number for a person to call them back if they fell for it.

Right. That's the one my wife got. I'm used to the "live" calls...

I've played with that too. "Wait, what's wrong with my windows? They don't look broken. Who told you my windows were broken?"

I have to be in the right mood, but when I'm feeling ornery I do. I'm also trying to figure out how to make an email rule that just replies "Pass" when I get an email from a sender I don't know, without risking pissing off someone important who just happens to not be a contact (work email).

EDIT -- my kids have actually said they're looking forward to getting spam calls so they can do the same thing
