My son did one similar to what you describe for Chubb. They told him to treat it as if it were a live interview, and dress appropriately. He tested his webcam with me, and moved some stuff so that nothing but wall showed up behind him. I don't think he got the job, but I don't recall. It sounded horrible. Watching a bunch of pre-recorded videos of anxious candidates awkwardly talking to a webcam sounds awful, too.

I assumed the point was to avoid scheduling issues, but I guess "they all get the same questions" has some merit. Still, they will give different answers and you will be judging those answers subjectively. I don't see how that will protect you from being sued.

I am not a big fan of these.

Its just a way to make it easier to filter candidates.

But from what I have observed, all you do is select for extroverts, rather than skill, which causes problems further on down the line. I still find face to face to be far superior.

Also, this is geared to making it easier for the hiring manager to be able to filter candidates at any time. If you are this busy and lazy, you should not be a hiring manager.

It should be audio-only to minimize racial bias.

also I believe that is ONE reason why companies do this? They can judge candidates however they want and couldn't be legally proven of unethical hiring practices.

but you will still have sex bias with audio only

and you can get into regional accent bias....

and then if you go into written responses, there are a whole bunch of other issues....

ok how about audio only but the audio file goes thru one of those voice changing softwares? and it would filter out things like "y'all", "hella", "bro", "y'all'll" and stitches all the bits together and smoothes it out.... then you'll have no bias whatsoever

You must be kidding. They will not do anything more than the minimum. That's the real reason to make it one-way.
