I don't see a problem with this.

I'd like to go to Vancouver. Cost is the deciding factor for my company and I need to research how much it's going to be. I'll definitely look into the fly to Seatle option and a train ticket up to Vancouver. Seems like that would make a pretty cool trip for me and the wife.

Diners Drive ins & dives has done a lot of restaurants from the twin cities in the last year. Vancouver too, actually. http://www.flavortownusa.com/

Not sure if my company will whine with the cost, but this is by far my preference over Minneapolis. So I made my hotel reservation just in case. I've never been there, so I'll likely stay the rest of the week.

Vancouver is nice, but the employer's needs are the most important factor. And I think that it would be extremely beneficial to my employer if I were up to date with the current developments in reinsurance and went to the reinsurance seminar instead. Especially given that I work in primary insurance. Yeah somebody needs to keep an eye on those sneaky reinsurers who always try to cheat and charge high prices. I'm going to talk to my boss...

You know, it's because of people like you that the economy is in the state it is. Like my former boss. One day I took initiative and proposed that I visit our Paris office. You know what he said? Something like "but your work has nothing to do with the Paris office" all looking confused (he is a good actor). Like duh, that's exactly why I wanted to go there, to learn from a new perspective and professionally grow in a way that couldn't be achieved by interacting with the same people all the time. He probably felt threatened by me and thought I was aiming for his job, and chose his own little petty wants over the company's good. No wonder he looked so relieved the day I resigned.

Turns out I will be going. I may stay a day or two longer if there is something worth sticking around for. Or I might take the train home. I've always wanted to take the train across the continent. Has anyone ever done it? It seems like a long trip even to Chicago, 50 hours! But it must be amazing.

Anyone know Vancouver or the surrounding area? I'm more into nature than cities.

My wife took the train from NY to SLC for the Winter Olympics, and said it was awesome.
