Default Average claim expense of total operating expense

Hi guys,

can I get an idea of what is typical claim expense % out of total operating expense for a normal direct P&C insurer with personal and commercial business in NA? I just need a rough indication like a range (for example I am good with 10-20%). For my question, tou can consider claim expense as just the ULAE portion and ALAE goes with the losses

You can find an answer by looking at several insurer's Annual Statement which are generally available to the public.

Quick google-fu search:
Traveler's Insurance

Liberty Mutual (2004)

Note that you might also want to look at several years' worth of information to get a sense of the range of values that could exist even within one company from year to year.
