SUMMARY

This online course provides a foundation in macroeconomic terminology, models, and analysis. How the macroeconomy is measured, tracked and modeled and the effects of fiscal and monetary policy on aggregate markets are covered. In addition, the topics of growth, inflation, unemployment, international trade, exchange rates, and the money market are treated. The depth of the course is comparable to a one-semester, undergraduate course in macroeconomics. Successful students will learn macroeconomic concepts and how they are applicable in actuarial work.

Students who are unable to achieve a passing score may retake the the entire course, or the final examination only, at no additional charge.

Included Course Materials:
Sapling Subscription (includes eBook version of Economics, 3rd Edition, by Paul Krugman and Robin Wells)

Course Structure

This course is partitioned into eight weekly units consisting of the following resources:
• Assigned Readings
• Instructor notes
• Suggested Practice Problems (with full solutions)
• Assigned Graded Homework
• One-On-One Instructor Support
• Discussion Forum

ASSESSMENT

Weekly Homework
Each chapter will have a graded homework assignment to be completed and turned in through Sapling. Homework problems will be a combination of graphical analysis, short answer, and multiple choice questions. They will follow in substance the suggested practice problems. Homework assignments must be done independently. Grades and detailed solutions will be provided in the Sapling system after the due date.

Final Exam
The final exam is a comprehensive, two-hour, closed-note and closed-text exam. Exam questions will be a combination of short-answer, graphical and multiple choice, similar in substance to the assigned practice and graded homework problems. The exam must be proctored by a credentialed actuary, recruited by the student. Exam proctors must be approved by ACTEX.

Please note that ProctorU cannot remotely proctor paper & pencil final exams.

New: “Final Exam Week” Announcement!

At ACTEX Learning, we listen to the needs of our students and do our best to help you succeed in achieving your goals. With that in mind, we have introduced new options that make ACTEX VEE courses even easier to complete your VEE requirements. Earlier this year, we began offering computer-based testing (CBT*) for all of our VEE courses. In March 2017, we added the option of remote proctoring through ProctorU**. And NEW for customers who choose a VEE course with CBT final exam, we are extending the final exam time period to a FULL WEEK; allowing you the most flexibility in selecting your proctor and the agreed-upon test time.

Beginning immediately, students taking the CBT final exam may schedule starting Saturday at midnight to the following Sunday at 10 pm, in your local time-zone.

* Computer-based tests are randomly-generated from a question bank and are unique for each test. Paper & pencil tests are all the same and therefore fall into a more stringent security protocol. As a result, ONLY CBT tests qualify for flexible scheduling.
** Students are responsible for creating an account and paying ProctorU directly for their proctoring services. ACTEX does NOT profit from your use of their services.

New: Remote Proctoring Option!

Those who choose the Computer-Based Test (CBT) for their Final Exam:

ACTEX Learning has authorized ProctorU to provide remote proctoring services for only $28.

This service is offered as a convenience for our students. ACTEX does NOT profit from use of this service. Students must create a ProctorU account and are responsible for scheduling and paying ProctorU for their exam. The ProctorU service is NOT included in the Pass Guarantee, if you need to retake your exam, you will need to pay for their services again.

Some of the advantages of using ProctorU:

• You do NOT need to find an ASA or FSA to proctor your exam, you do NOT need to go to your proctor’s location, and there is no time-consuming approval process. Simply choose ProctorU and that’s all!
• ProctorU is available worldwide 24 hours a day and can schedule your exam when you are ready.
• You can take the Final Exam in the comfort of your home, office or any private setting with Internet.

Individuals with disabilities are eligible to receive necessary testing accommodations. Please contact OnlineCourses@ActexMadRiver.com prior to registering for this course if you require an accommodation.
