I think all the Lego games offer co-op. Not violent like Call of Duty. Usually 10 bucks cheaper than regular games. Older ones probably around 30.

You're looking for the WiiU.

Seriously though, here are games my wife and I played:
Rayman Legends
Rocket League
Dead Nation
Diablo 3
Lego Star Wars
Lego Marvel Superheroes

Honestly, the PS4 & Xbone aren't particularly great for family gaming. Xbone at least has Halo 1-4 & Gears of War 1-4.

Rayman
Little Big Planet 3 (or 2 or 1 if you're fine with PS3)
Disney Infinity
Skylanders

I forgot about LBP3, because it was super short.

Overcooked. It's a downloadable co-op game, but people seem to be enjoying the hell out of it on the internet (Disclosure: I haven't played this one).

i'm brand new to console gaming, and i suck so very hard at it

some on the interwebs suggest playing a familiar PC game with the PS4 controller to get used to it. sounds like a good idea to me. i hear that TLOU is a great story and i don't want to be distracted from the story by having to focus on/learning to manipulating the controller.

your thoughts?

Holy crap how could I forget OCTODAD.

That will really test your relationship.

(You also may need to buy some new pants because I pissed mine while playing)
