FWIW this didn't come up on my exam, so it's not the reason I passed. But if it had, I would have felt pretty dumb for not knowing VaR or TVaR for the only two distributions it isn't provided for, especially since they like N and LogN in problems.

It's better to have a 5 than a 2 because you know you're that close. I got a 5 in October, took a couple weeks off, studied for the next few months, and now it's an 8.

The way I looked at it back in October was that I knew I'd failed, so a 5 was the best outcome I could hope for. I found it pretty motivating actually, and it pushed me to get serious about studying for February because I knew I was so close. I ended up spending another couple hundred hours studying for the second attempt, and passed easily. Found out this morning that I actually got a 10.

It'll happen, just keep at it.

The reason that the 5 is so frustrating for me is that I will not be taking this exam and June and will be taking it in October. The reason for this is because of the SOA changing MLC to a 4 hour exam that is 60% written next year, and I want to get it done this year. After this announcement, I immediately decided to sit for MLC in May, thinking that I would be able to still take 4/C again in June since I knew I probably got a 4 or 5 on this exam. However, after several weeks of trying to study for both exams, I realized that I was in all likelihood setting myself up for 2 failures, so I decided to go with just MLC since I already signed up. But at the same time, I know that I will not need 5 months to study for 4/C in October, so I guess I can hopefully take MFE in July and still give myself 11-12 weeks for 4/C in October, which should be sufficient since I only studied 10 weeks for C the first time.
