TR:

Free play went amazingly. I bought some Las Vegas Advisor coupon books for the family. At Golden Gate we went 6 for 6 on $25 match plays with 4 wins, a blackjack, and a split/double on 66 v 6 for a nice little $400+ start to the trip. Did well on the other free play at Plaza also, making another $300.

Golden Gate was where we spent probably 90% of our time downtown. The odds on blackjack are excellent, dealers very friendly and helpful to my noob brother, and the cocktail service was excellent - even comped my redbull/vodka/jager/pineapple monstrosity that was delicious. The only downside was that they wouldn't let me play roulette in between shoes with money at the blackjack table. I think the pit boss was impressed with my gambling degeneracy though and upped my rating.

We went to Plaza and while standing in line at the player's desk I see a table games dealer leaning up against a slot machine while watching a film crew film this old guy on the staircase smoking a cigar. Something about this guy's face seemed familiar but I couldn't quite place it. Then it struck me, this guy is the blackjack dealer in the Hangover movie that I had just watched the day before! My brother absolutely did not believe me, but I went over to him and asked and he said he absolutely was! Really friendly guy, told me he was at the Plaza to film a 6-part mini series about some gambly heist comedy. A while later while me, my brother, and my mom were playing blackjack they filmed a scene with a midget running down an aisle with arms full of cash. We'll have to see if we made the scene!

El Cortez is usually the place I go to play blackjack, but unfortunately the dealer was not in a good mood, and I couldn't blame her. There was a drunk guy on 1st base who was making fun of her nationality, claiming that her name was not her real name because it didn't sound Mexican (dealer was from Peru with a given American name), and proceeded to ask her when her family snuck over the border. Fortunately I still know all of my spanish swear words and had a nice little spanish conversation about what we thought of his presence at the table. Even more fortunately, the guy busted on a crazy 6-bet split/double hand!

Later on we went to the strip and hit up the Cromwell. Lost a good amount playing carnival games, mostly with Ultimate Texas Hold'Em. The dealer could not find a bad hand. If I had a pair she had two pair, if I had a flush she had a higher flush. I do like their 3:2 pitch blackjack for $15 table min. The free drinks there are awesome. They come in 16 oz plastic cups, and with a good tip they will spruce them up a bit. I was doing screwdrivers and tipping $2/drink. My third screwdriver came with a big slice of pineapple and orange in it!

Casino Royale I got into a fight with a homeless man who was obviously high on drugs. He didn't like my looking at his screen on video roulette so he got up and threw a wadded up dollar at me. Then he started to charge me and I simply backed away and called security. Typical for Casino Royale.

The most fun I had was the morning of my last day. Flight was at 1pm and I decided to spend the last of my time in Vegas at the PHo sportsbook. It was an awesome time with just me and three other people at the VP bar all making our MLB picks for the day. I gave advice on picking DBacks over Bumgarner's return from the DL and Freeland to beat out the Reds. I was also making a ton of NFL futures bets, which apparently warrant quite a frequent return of drink tickets at the betting window, because I got at least 10. Unfortunately my flight was in a few hours so I couldn't get hammered (again), so I gave them out at the bar. The bartender was making some top shelf stuff too! My favorite part of Vegas has always been in the mornings - gambling when no one else is around and getting to know other people that are awake at 7am.

Overall lost $1300 on the trip - probably my worst return in a while. I might not be back until next year, but mayyyybe I can sneak in a November weekend trip.

I'll also be on an Alaskan cruise next month - interested to see how a cruise casino compares to sin city.

Just noticed that the final day of the Main Event is 7/14, the night before the WC Final.

So, stay up all night watching slow-ass poker, get up to watch soccer at 8AM. Thinking about it.
