Very toxic mindset I know. I've been that way since I was a kid. Seen a shrink, been on meds, just trying to limit the aftermath more than make any real progress.

Yeah this smells of more evidence your arrogance is largely a symptom of laziness and dispassion.
You gotta try to do something harder than being an actuary.

I know

It's hard to be motivated, though. Like, one time I decided to study control theory so I can write a paper on it because my ex is a control theorist and it would piss him off to no end. Those are my motivations.

Not going to quit my job to pursue a Ph.D. because golden handcuffs.

I understand that he's wired to not get along with 'normal' people. But it sounds like he he's doing it anyway, because he doesn't know what else to do.

He should stop talking to normal people. Become a hermit, or better yet shack up with some other brains, who can give him richer aspirations.

If FSA exams were the biggest thing I ever tried to do, I'd be pretty arrogant too.

Hahahah, pissiness can get you pretty far in life.
Maybe not quite that far.

See also the thread where I'm joining Mensa. If I don't get accepted, I dunno, embrace mediocracy and get Instagram.

(I should clarify-- fwiw-- actuarial exams might very well be the biggest thing I've succeeded in doing. But they're still basically an afterthought in a long history of either failing or not trying.)

And yeah, I hope Mensa helps you there.

Maybe you should consult a mental health professional about your inability to have fun without alcohol.

You'll probably want to see a psychiatrist, because you'd probably look down on a mere psychologist.
