Ooooh dear. Someone's going to lose their job over that,

The funniest typo I've seen from the SOA was the special copy of CompAct handed out at the SOA Annual Meeting last year... where my article on the ubiquity of errors was mistitled in the TOC as "To Err is Human; To Correct, Devine".

I got no end of mirth out of that, and no, I didn't ask that to be done on purpose. The correct spelling was on the interior title. I don't know why the TOC and interior titles are not linked in some way. Makes me wonder about the typesetting software.

The agency responsible for economic development under Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has failed to turn over to the city more than $125 million in payments, taxes and fees, according to an audit conducted by the city comptroller to be released on Wednesday.
...
The comptroller, John C. Liu, said the agency, the Economic Development Corporation, had hoarded money it earned through leases on buildings in Times Square and the sale of city properties and had improperly held money in a dormant account.
...
In a detailed two-page rebuttal, the development agency defended its practice of keeping certain money, citing a supportive opinion from the city’s Law Department. The rebuttal belittled the comptroller’s findings, noting that the audit had found a “tiny fraction” of imprecise accounting by the corporation by amounts like 0.2 percent, 0.03 percent and 0.34 percent.
...
Mr. Liu, 43, an actuary who once worked at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, has given his auditors their own department and elevated its leader, H. Tina Kim, who oversaw the audit of the development corporation, to the new title of deputy comptroller for auditing. Mr. Liu also said he was focusing attention on the Education Department, whose overhaul Mr. Bloomberg considers a cornerstone of his tenure.

Speaking of making your life seem longer, here’s some dubious advice: Marry an actuary or accountant. Supposedly your life will be so boring, it will seem to last forever. According to my wife, good advice but for the wrong reason!

His wikipedia article also does not mention being an actuary:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_C._Liu

just that he had been a manager at PwC

official bio:

Quote:
Prior to joining the City Council, John Liu managed a team of actuaries working on the largest pension plans in the country.

So he =managed= actuaries.

And just for that, the poor guy gets branded with the label "actuary". Tough break, Liu.
