Default The Official "I Recently Got Hired" Thread

For all of us who have recently been offered/started jobs in actuarial, please state when you got the offer, when you started or are starting, what field you're working in, and location. I'd like to hear from primarily those of us that are entry level or those experienced hires who got an actuarial job after a long hiatus without one.

This serves as a motivational thread for all those job seekers out there that are getting discouraged in their search. Keep studying/passing, keep applying emailing and networking, and keep on trying! You'll get there soon enough!

I'll start it up:

Offer date: March 2010
Start date: April 12, 2010
Field: Property Casualty
Location: California

ETA: Those on edge about somehow revealing their true identity with this information, feel free to be more vague in your offer date and location description. See mine vs jprep's.

Already 2 steps ahead of you. No problem with that, personally. Still, good point.

Could you all who got a job list some of your credentials so those of us still in college can get an idea of what to expect?

If possible can you list:
-Number of exams
-GPA
-Type of school (i.e. Ivy, Top public school, small private college, mediocre state school, etc...)
-Programming skills

It would be very much appreciated!

-Number of girls slept with during college (another possible proxi for soft-skills??)
-Were you in a fraternity (categorical variable used as a proxi for soft-skills??)

It would be very much appreciated!
I added a few things to your list.

Sorry it took me so long to read this post. I would never read a non-work-related forum during work hours!

Actually, after work hours, I showed a coworker the MFE subforum.
