It absolutely is a racket, but the hefty cost for PA comes as no surprise. The SOA and companies in the insurance industry want to limit the number of students coming out of these exam factory college programs with ASAs or near ASA with limited experience. The easiest way to do that is to introduce more exams and assessments, especially ones that are cost prohibitive for the average college student.

Well make them harder, not more expensive. And open more jobs!

Good luck!
The author of that 'book', Brian Fannin, is now a staff actuary at CAS. I haven't looked at all his materials but what I've seen looks good, and should be relevant for actuarial work/exams.

Well I'm glad I've made like three people happy since yesterday, because my girlfriend won't be happy on a Saturday when I spend the day on FAP modules.

You think the SOA is going to put more effort into developing (and grading) exams, for less money???

is everyone talking about the "DRAFT December 2018 Syllabus with Learning Objectives/Outcomes and Readings" syllabus or is there something else? because based on what i've seen it doesn't look that bad.

Some of us got an email this morning. I'm mostly up in arms about the price, since I don't have an actuarial job yet. That is pretty much all I am hung up on, actually.

The SOA sent out an email to candidates who "may be interested in additional information about [the] new Predictive Analytics Exam." I'm guessing they singled out everyone who has passed a few exams but is unlikely to earn their ASA before the cut-off. The PA home page has pretty much the same information as the email:

https://www.soa.org/Education/Exam-R...pa-detail.aspx

I'm working through FAP right now... Hoping to wrap it up by the end of July so that I can focus entirely on PA after that point.
