Default Do FSAs take fellowship exams for CPD purposes?

Apparently some people do?

Is it even allowed by the SOA?

What about ASA exams? Should current FSA's take the new ASA requirements?

merely for CE credit? self study would count, right? an exam seminar would work too. but if someone was taking the exam it would not be just for CE I hope.

I get my CPD the non-masochistic way, thank you very much.

Prior to today I have never heard of this happening. That would definitely be an insanely masochistic way to earn CPD.

Note that from 2000 - 2005 there was an FSA component called PD, which you completed last after everything else. You had to get 100 points (I think, but the exact number isn't important) and you had to do a project that was 15 of those 100 points. Then there were a ton of others things that got you points.

Like attending various meetings got you different numbers of points depending on the length of the meetings. And you could watch online videos of past meeting sessions and such. Getting the CFA designation got you a certain, fairly high, number of points (maybe 50?) and taking a second Course 8 exam in a *different* track than the Course 8 exam that you'd already passed got you a boatload of points... maybe 75?

IIRC, you also got points for having the FCAS designation, which some of the joint FCAS / FSA folks took advantage of.

I think pretty much no one other than some academics did a second Course 8 as that was considered insanely masochistic, and even the CFA / FCAS was pretty much only people who already had it or at least already had one or two of the (then-three) CFA exams.
