my company wants ass in chair 40 hours per week. you must be in the office for all of it, and must cover 9:00AM to 3:00PM, the rest can fall before after as you please.

Good point. But at my company, managers aren't allowed to access the badge data unless they get approval from HR. So it seems to be reserved for exceptional circumstances.

Hey what happens if you forget to clock out? Do data on all your subsequent office visits get messed up?

Your manager can override your clock times when that happens. Just clock out when you come in then clock in again.
