I'm convinced there is no good way to do 5-8. Especially if old city and new city are apart. Really hard to time it all out without either paying two mortgages or making compromises in your decisions (like taking less money or rushing into a house that isn't quite what you want). I have no idea how people pull this off. Seems like it would be better to sell your house, put your crap in storage, and rent a temporary furnished apartment while you look.
