If anyone uses the iPhone app gFlashPro, I am going to start making flash cards on there that I will share.

If anyone has an excel sheet with flashcard type material it would be a great starting point.

TIA

Here's a simple formula to determine the yield rate on an investment involving shorting a stock. I saw a few solutions from different sources that all varied in their approach and found them a bit confusing so I cleaned up their approach and made a more straight forward formula. I hope you find it as useful as I do.

Say Bob sells a stock short for price P and buys it back for price B at the end of one year. He has to deposit a margin M (k% of P) which he receives an interest rate of j on. One year later before Bob buys back the stock the stock pays a dividend of D.
What is the yield rate on his investment?

To recap:
P - short sell price
M - margin deposited = k% of P
D - amount of Dividend (if need be accumulate to end of year)
k - percent of P deposited as margin
j - interest rate (used to calculate interest on M and D)

$yield =$$[1+(j)(k)]P - (B+D)$ divided by $M$

*I'm going to work on getting this into tex.

Notes

I was googling and came across an actuarial club site and found some great formulas to use when studying. It doesn't cover everything since it looks like it was updated in 2007 but it looks good!

The site is here: http://grove.ufl.edu/~fass/examfm-2.htm

and ther attachment is below.
