Default Bluetooth & Cars

I have an android and also just leased a new car. Last car was 10 years old, so lacking in features. BTW, wife uses an I-phone, so if different answer, that is appreciated too.

I use my car's radio.

If I am using my phone's GPS and Bluetooth is on, I get no voice through the phone or car.

In the car I can change device to my phone, but then I can't get the radio

I can turn off Bluetooth, get the radio & GPS (through the phone), but then I lose the Phone features of the car.

Ideally, I want to listen to the radio and have the GPS interrupt. Secondarily, I would want to listen to the radio, hear the GPS through my phone, but not lose the Car Phone features.

Can this be done?

Thank you

I believe you can do this through android auto, you should check if the car you leased has it because it varies a lot although a lot of new cars do have it.

Just realized that technically this isn't what you want because for android auto to work you have to plug in your phone through usb.

no issue using the USB instead of Bluetooth, more about the functions, rather then how I get there.

I uploaded the Android auto. Need to check out what it allows when am back at the car

Thanks all - the part of the equation I was missing is you can't use a knock off connector

Can you listen to the radio through your phone, like some sort of iheartradio thing? (Never used it, despite hearing ads for years, but I'm guessing that's the point) I would assume that would let your phone audio go through the car, giving you radio interrupted by gps

I think you are saying use podcasts, instead of radio. not sure all stations I listen to do that

I would recommend listening to your stations on IHeartRadio or TuneIn. Should both be free w/ads. I'd be surprised if you don't find what you need. They aren't podcasts - many stations stream online realtime.

It should work with Auto, and you can easily switch between that and Maps. Not sure what you listen to but nationally syndicated talk shows are usually available via an app also in podcast form.

Otherwise, just using maps on your phone, your car will need to be set on bluetooth to hear its updates.

If none of that works, there are more apps that stream FM stations for the phone than that work with Auto. Stream on the phone and run maps on it also.

I think inherently use of bluetooth requires the output to be switched between sources, such that you cannot hear both. The advent of AndroidAuto and AppleCarplay exists predominantly to rectify this technical issue, as per Fat Ninja.
