Story time!

I have been writing articles about dataviz in CompAct. For my first article, I intended to take some awful graphs, tear them apart, and build something better.

My first choice was an awful pie chart in an article in The Actuary.



and I also made fun of this:



I was told that I couldn't use those examples, so I had to rewrite the article

(I was also told I couldn't use WHY PIE CHARTS SUCK as a section header, but that required less work to change)

Yes there's absolutely no benefit to pie charts over horizontal bars. I don't know why people go out of their way to use them.

Worse still: 3D pie charts

Hmm, I think Steve Martin (stand-up comedian, not an actuary) had a bit with a rubber chicken graph.

So use a rubber chicken instead of a rooster.
