Default reinsurance division at an insurance company vs reinsurance company

Does anybody have an experience working at a reinsurance division at an insurance company? Things like analyzing profitability and various impacts of reinsurance deals on inforce treaties, look at emerging experience, etc.

What would you say are the benefits and downsides to working in such a department vs a more traditional department such as valuation and pricing?
