Question Why would anyone want to become the emperor of Rome?

A lot of those guys died horrible deaths, especially towards the end of the Western half. Sounds like a bad deal to me.

So, why even become emperor at all? Did any of those guys not see it coming or what? Actually, what was the point of Rome even having an emperor if it was a given that he would keep getting assassinated after shortly taking power?

It's ok to walk away from your keyboard once in a while and not post every inane thought that forms in your brain.

Women... food... other ancient recreational activites?

And Rome had an emperor because when it didn't have an emperor a general would conquer the country after having his soldiers declare him Augustus.

I mean ppl died much earlier than today and there were so many things that could have ended your life. Id be down to become an emperor and have the best women, money and food even if its for a very finite amoun of time
