Lightbulb ACTEX Presents "Blockchain for Actuaries and Insurance Professionals" 3/15 @ 1:00 EST

ACTEX eLearning Webinar:

Blockchain Intro for Actuaries and Insurance Professionals

March 15, 2018 1:00 – 2:15 PM ET

Co-Sponsored by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries

1.5 SOA/CPD, CAS CE Credits/Training Hours
This is a potential source of 1.25 hours of CPD for the Canadian Institute of Actuaries

The term “blockchain” is becoming increasingly ubiquitous in professional discussion forums and at Fintech and Insuretech conferences globally. Increasingly, we are becoming more familiar with Bitcoin and other ”cryptocurrencies” because of all the attention dedicated to them in mainstream media. We hear about the massive potential that rivals the societal impact of the internet 20 years ago, but we also hear about fraud, scams, and asset bubbles. Few of us understand what blockchain is, how it works, and why the ”techies” are so excited about it. This webinar is designed to demystify the technology and mathematics behind blockchain technology, understand how blockchain was created to support a disintermediated banking system in Bitcoin, and the potential for blockchain technology to change the face of insurance.

Learning Objectives:
  • Understand blockchain technology, what it is and what it does.
  • Understand how Bitcoin works, and what the risks are.
  • Learn how the technology can be adapted to solve some of the problems associated with blockchain.
  • Comprehend current and future applications of blockchain in insurance.
