control + command + g

Or from the menu (in the context of the VBA editor) view -> Immediate Window

Excel for Mac 2011 14.6.2 running on OS X High Sierra

And you can see my very sophisticated rock-paper-scissors model there in the background. Temper your jealousy!

Thanks CG. I checked the old stand-alone version of Excel on my machine. It's Excel for Mac 14.4.2. It apparently runs. I can open my current spreadsheet with it, and it recognizes that there are macros, but I don't remember how to work with macros in it. There is no "Developer" tab, and the customize menu bar doesn't seem to have the option to add it. There is a View tab, but it doesn't offer the Immediate Window as an option. The Help menu doesn't give any relevant info about macros, and search Excel Help doesn't even give any hits for "immediate". It does say that I could search Excel Help on the web for more info.

control + command + g doesn't do anything for me in either the old Excel or the current Office 365 Excel. I haven't tried turning off the machine and restarting it, if there is any chance that would help. I did quit and restart the Office 365 Excel, and that didn't help.

Problem resolved. I did not have Office set to check for updates. When I did check and applied all the outstanding updates, I ended up with Excel version 16.12, and I can open an Immediate window.
