Default Which Xbox?

My 13yo wants an Xbox for his birthday, so he can play games online with his friends. (He has a PS4 now.)

What is the best value? I see the Xbox One 4K is very expensive. He doesn't think he needs one, and could settle for a "regular" Xbox One. But now I see the "One S" model and I'm just confused what to get.

He has absolutely nothing in the Xbox family. So, thoughts on how to get him started?

I see that Costco has the following bundle for $249.

Xbox One S 500GB Bundle with 3-month Xbox Live Card, 3-month Game Pass and Extra Controller

Thoughts?

Not even he is pushing for the high end model, so don't bother with it.

However, 500GB will mean running out of space in no time, so get a 1TB model unless you're planning to add an external hard drive (must be USB 3.0) soon.

That Costco bundle is a good deal. The S is the one to get. Also, you can get a 2TB external HD for $50-$60 I think.

Actually, the hottest game right now is Fortnite, which is cross platform, so it can be played in groups with PS4's, PC's, ipad pros, and Xboxes

I'd wait to see if you need a HD. If he's only gonna play a couple of games with his friends online, he'll be ok for a while. Add the HD when needed.

What takes up all the hard drive space?

I'm still on the prior generation, will probably upgrade when/if Red Dead Redemption comes out.
