You plug it into your computer, where it will mount as if it were a USB drive.

Browse to your naughty files directory. Create a file named ".nomedia"

Gallery and similar apps will ignore that directory and any subdirectories when scanning for files.

On the other points, to add to what's already been said:

4. Can't hide files and photos. This is my biggest issue. WTF is this about? This archive feature is pointless.
5. How am i supposed to connect this to a PC?
6. Why does this charger have to be different than any other charger i've had in the past 5 years. Is this the future of all chargers (I think it is, right? I still don't like it cuz my PC doesn't have a port that fits this)
1. Correct. One of the reasons some of us were attracted to the Pixel is specifically because it doesn't come with bloat/crapware beyond what's standard to Android. You pick what you want on your phone beyond the OS, not the manufacturer.

2. I use Rocket Player for non-streaming audio. I think for basic use it's free, but you get bells and whistles if you upgrade to a paid version, which I did a long time ago.

3. I use Nine Email. It's not free, but it's the least annoying Android app (IMO) that can connect to Exchange (e.g., for corporate email). I also use aCalendar+ for calendaring for similar reasons.

5/6: As others have noted, USB A-to-C cables if you don't have native USB C ports. However, with both A-C and C-C cables, READ THE REVIEWS WHEN ORDERING ONLINE. I don't think it's so much of a problem now, but when C came out, there were issues with some of the cheaper cables being fire hazards.

Common enough that both the photo viewing apps i use, gallery and piktures, support defining a "hidden folder" which isn't shown by default.

Gallery, by simple mobile tools, is free. The only issue I had with it is that it is took me a while to figure out how to tell it not to show album covers.

Piktures is probably free, too, I forget. The first item on its help page is how to set up a secret folder, so I'm sure you are not alone in wanting one. It does some light editing - i missed use it to make a smaller version of a photo to email.

I just got a Pixel 2 and really like it. I was already using other apps for email and music so that transition was seamless.

Only issue I had was transferring contacts due to encryption on my old iPhone. There's a work around for that - hope to get around to doing that this weekend.

Maybe I don't understand the term bloat. I thought it meant things like having the NFL app pre-loaded and impossible to uninstall.

Thanks for all the tips, I learned a few things and in fact, it turns out this phone can do a few things I wanted and I just didn't realize it. You guys are smart.

No, I have the Moto X4, which is cheaper. But all the same apps will work on both. I have the google version of the X4, so it's very similar to the Pixel in terms of software, and it's on the same OS.

I think Piktures will do what you want, at least for stills. I don't take enough videos to know what it does for those. If I paid for it, it was cheap, and it doesn't make me "subscribe" or continue to pay. No ads.

It looks like the google Photos app can edit video a little -- like trimming bits you don't want from the start and end.

Hmm... did not see that functionality but I trust you. I'll research a little. Thanks!

Click on the screen as the video plays. At the bottom, 3 icons appear, to port, edit, or delete the video. Click on the center one to edit. that lets you drag the start and end bar in, to trim the video. It also lets you rotate! the video. Then you need to save your changes, in the upper right.
