Intermediate Actuarial Strategist


Location: US-MA-Boston
Full/Part Time: Full FTE

Job Description: SSgA seeks an individual with actuarial background to assist in quantitative and qualitative analysis with a focus on LDI (liability driven investing) across a variety of liability types. The individual will be joining the Strategy and Research team within the Investment Solutions Group.

SSgA seeks an individual with actuarial background to assist in quantitative and qualitative analysis with a focus on LDI (liability driven investing) across a variety of liability types. The individual will be joining the Strategy and Research team within the Investment Solutions Group. This position will be working closely with senior portfolio managers and strategists to evaluate, monitor, manage and execute liability based solutions for institutional clients.

Responsibilities:
• Ongoing oversight of client liabilities; valuations, risk analysis, benchmarking and Dynamic De-Risking clients
• Act as an actuarial and defined benefit subject matter expert to support various initiatives and services, including enhancement of liability-driven investing models and other analytic and reporting services
• Work closely with strategists and PMs on custom solution design and delivery; prepare client and new business development presentations focusing on liability driven strategies, strategic and tactical asset allocation opportunities
• Prepare and review liability modeling and ALM studies
• Serve as a technical resource on the latest regulatory developments and industry trends affecting defined benefit plans and discuss policy and regulation issues as they relate to investing
• Interpret plan documentation and determine implications of investment strategies; participate in product related decisions involving custom solutions, product development enhancements/launches, and other business considerations

Required Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in math, actuarial science or related field with a minimum of 5 years of actuarial experience working with corporate and/or governmental pension plans; master's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline is a plus
• ASA or FSA designation and career emphasis on investments and retirement benefit modeling; progress towards or desire to pursue the CFA designation
• Knowledge of actuarial formulas, methods, forecasting and procedures; significant experience with defined benefit plan design, ALM studies, pension risk management and portfolio construction
•Familiarity with pension rules and regulations, including ERISA, PPA, Internal Revenue Code, and IASB/FASB/PBGC rules,
• Experience in working with ProVal is a significant plus. ProVal experience should include working with actuarial valuations, deterministic and stochastic projections, capital market assumptions, and ALM studies.
• Solid communication and presentation skills and ability to effectively collaborate with portfolio managers and strategists in the development of LDI portfolios
• Advanced MS Excel and PowerPoint skills; MATLAB programming skills a significant plus
