With Lillard back in the lineup, Blazers have won 3 in a row, with Melo averaging 23 and 8 on 57% fg with a +56 scoring margin with Melo on the court (-12 with him off).

As D-Wade and LeBron said about his return, IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!! Laughable to think that, collectively, NBA teams actually believed there are 450+ guys more deserving of being in the NBA than Melo.

It's more that they thought he wasn't worth the amount he wanted. He probably was asking for over $5M last season. His current deal of $14,490 per day works out to about $2.6M* for a whole season, which fell into the price range somebody wanted to pay.

*in his case, $2.15M because he missed the first few weeks of the season and therefore wouldn't receive the full $2.6M.

He signed a minimum contract w/ Houston last year. While he only played in 10 games, he was still on their roster until near the trade deadline when he was sent to Chicago, who was tanking so they released him. The Lakers were strongly considering picking him up to make a playoff push, but they went into a tailspin before they did, fell out of the playoff race, so he wasn't needed. But practically anyone could've given him a minimum contract this summer but it seemed he was blacklisted as being a terrible fit for today's NBA despite performing well in workouts with the Nets over the summer.

Including a couple of bad shooting games out of the gate while Lillard was out, he's putting up 18pts, 6rebs on 46% fg, 37%3ptfg, 80% ft in 30 min/g...at 35 yrs old, he's not far off his career averages per 36 minutes.

Two weeks after being thought of as a player who was no longer good enough to play in the NBA, I present to you, NBA Western Conference Player of the Week...CARMELO ANTHONY.

Great story, very happy for him.

Color me shocked. I really thought he was done after last year.

He just needed to concentrate more on scoring and less on assists.

Im shocked hes doing alright, especially after that huge layoff. That said, giving him that award is a joke. Does luka or harden not exist? Harden had a game where he scored 60 in 3 quarters.

Was that the same week Luka scored more points, got more rebounds and dished out more assists that the entire Warrior team in the 1st quarter?

To be fair to the teams that didn't want 'Melo, he didn't have a good season in his 10 games with Houston, averaging career lows of 13.4 points and 0.5 assists per game in 29.4 minutes, with a field goal percentage of 40.5% which is just barely above his previous career low of 40.4%. Good 3-point shooters have better 3-point percentages than that.

Maybe the time off with his career in jeopardy caused him to make a mental adjustment that made him a better player than he was a year ago. And the break allowed healing of the miscellaneous little aches and pains that bother most NBA players his age if they're still in the league after 1000+ games in their legs.

They're not waiting until January; they just made his contract guaranteed for the season.
