This was why I didn't want an extension for him. I wrote early in this thread that if he opted out, they should let him walk. They should have made the deal for Kluber when they had the chance.

Makes a long-term Harper deal that much less likely.
I thing teh Angels would be jumping on Harper if they didn't have Pujols and his contract. It limits their additional payroll AND makes them snakebitten about any future long-term deals. Plus they have Trout to work on.
I'd offer Trout a $30M/year extension, say five years. Every year he produces, add another year extension.

Trout already took a below market team friendly deal. I expect him to cash in this time around, unless he takes a cut to get on a team that makes an attempt to get to the series or wants to go back 'home' to the Phils.
