There are some excellent websites like fiverr that let you outsource all sorts of stuff. My friend outsourced some actuarial exam related data entry he was doing to a fellow in Bangladesh who speaks excellent English and has a masters in political science. The truth is, the wage differential is so large between our countries that it is easy to find a price for a job that is win-win.

2) It's hard to get personal errands in with the current American work week structure. Doctor, dentist, bank, haircut, realtor appointments, anything you can think of that's only open M-F 9-5.

3) Germany is one of the better countries economically to look to right now, IMHO, and they're showing that a shorter-than-American work week does just fine.
Not only that, but month long shut downs in August that most European industries practice. Vacation packages are usually much more generous as well. The work until you drop is just a part of the American culture. It could be worse though, we could be like Japan.

Without getting into too political of a discussion on Careers, I think globalization has been a net negative for the US.

Net negative? Sewing clothes sucks. Who wants to do that? Thanks to Asia we've freed up time for people to go do something else.
