Well... actually the thing here is that I already had a flight (both ways), I got it with british airways for $US300 (it was a bargain for students), but I haven't gotten my visa for the UK yet (i'm gonna be there for 9 months so I need a visa) and I have to change it, but the system is not letting me do that

Take your current flight to London. Live at the airport until your visa is ready.

j/k. I've been in that situation and it really sucks. Very stressful. You should've reserved multiple flights for multiple dates for the various scenarios that could happen.

Ha!

If only it was that easy.

My guess is that if you have a super cheap special fare and need to change it, you’re going to go get screwed. Sorry, dude, you’re just going to have to lube up, bend over, and grin and bear it.

I don't suppose you are allowed to take a 'vacation' in London for a month while you wait for the visa process to finish.

I'm going to guess that when you have a pending visa application, you cannot use other forms of visa or visa waiver programs.

Is a passport a visa? I'm just wondering if you can go on a passport while waiting for the visa.

Coming into the US, you are technically allowed to do so, but if the nice man at the border decides you are trying to get here before permitted and not go back, he can deny you entrance and even issue a 1-, 3-, or 5- year ban on re-entering the US, which means before you got approved for your visa, you'd have to go through another process to get the ban waived.

Generally, no. Passports get you access for vacation length stays in a few countries. Most countries you need permission to enter and stay for a certain period of time (a visa) prior to entry.

We need air travel reform.
Of course, it wouldn't be available to Mexicans.
