Try doing a google search on 'Satyajit Ray' (note ray, not rey) or this link from the google search results http://www.satyajitray.org/.

The appu trilogy is a classic, and basically you can't go wrong with any movie by Ray.

Oops, sorry about the spelling. Note also that most will be in Bengali. Anything early of his imo would be where to start. I remember Teen Kanya, Devi, the Music Rom, and the Apu Trilogy most. They are slow moving and often sad -- I would watch them at a time you will have no interruptions.

What movies would you say have

a) better music

or

b) better plot (I remember really being struck by the ethical dilemmas in KG, and I cried at the end of it too)

or

c) were more extravagant?

Can you recommend anything with a really serious, engrossing story?

I honestly do not remember creating this thread! Apparently I was still getting movies by mail back then. I still don't know what to watch after all these years. We are an hour into Chennai Express on Netflix and it's pretty funny so far. However, most of the Bollywood movies on Netflix are garbage and I can't bring myself to watch more than 30 min before turning them off.

It helps to fast forward through the musical scenes
