Four-year-old article, but a good one. I think I read it in this thread, actually!

I got a news alert with a similar story today, due to the current outbreak. When I looked on my laptop, those were the better articles that popped up.

Well, there might be some privacy or search and seizure right to not getting medical treatment without consent, but there's no religious freedom issue with respect to Orthodox Jews. There might be for Christian Scientists, I'm not sure.

From what I understand they are actually allowed to be vaccinated, but typically request exemptions because if prayer doesn't work then it's the will of God for a person to be sick (or something close to that).

But they are allowed to get a vaccine if they pray to be healed from its effects, based on a very brief bit of Googling.

Wow. All the more reason to go ahead and mandate vaccination.

Religious freedom ends at the point where actions infringe upon the rights and safety of others.

Yeah, I'm all in favor of religious freedom, but if your religious freedom means my immune compromised child is significantly more likely to die, then I think it's okay to trample that aspect of your religious freedom.

(This is why I am in favor of mandating the measles immunization, but not every immunization that's currently recommended. I mean, MY kids got all the ones that were recommended, but I think it's okay if you don't want your kids to have them until they are old enough to decide for themselves.)

Yeah, I think this is where I fall too. I'm OK with saying no religious exemptions to vaccinations.

Just a quick bit of info: Measles is highly contagious.

Googled this:
how long does measles virus last on surfaces

Got this:

Quote:
two hours
The measles virus can live on contaminated surfaces and in the air for up to two hours. If other people breathe the contaminated air or touch the contaminated surface, then touch their eyes, noses, or mouths, they can become infected. Measles may be transmitted from 4 days before through 4 days after rash onset.
https://www.hudsonregional.org/wnew/...nce_public.pdf

Over/Under on every non-vaccinated person in NYC getting Measles: one month.
