I think the Lakers May be forced to sign Cousins if they can’t trade for Kawhi, but the better move is to wait it out and try to sign Kawhi and Klay Thompson next summer imo. I also think Durant opts our of his 1+1 next year and resigns with OKC after Melo is done and the Warriors have secured a possible 3-peat.
Except the red part. Cousins would be a mistake.

I think it depends on the contract. It sounds like the market for Cousins is currently big money for short years because people don't know what he'll be like after his injury. If the Lakers do miss out on Kawhi them signing Cousins to a 1 year deal with big money seems like a worth while gamble. They'd still be set up for free agency next year and if he can come back from his injury they have a foot in the door on signing him long term.

That being said I don't know if Cousins would be willing to sign a 1 year deal with the Lakers.

There is no way in hell Cousins will sign a one-year deal if he's worried about own injury status. He doesn't seem to care about winning all that much...and he's good enough to warrant a huge 3-4 year deal from a mediocre team.

Lakers roster is taking shape already....LeBron, Kuzma, Ingram, Ball, KCP, Randle, Lance, McGee, and possibly IT2 if he's recovered from his injury. They can at least get to the 2nd round with that team, they still have a ton of cap space, and you know every savvy vet wants to go there now.

I hope this speeds up 1-16 seeding in the playoffs. Not having it is starting to hurt the product.

Makes for great Laker/Celtics reboot of their rivalry.
