Default 2018 NFL Football Discussion

OK, congrats to the Eagles on their first post-merger NFL Championship played in what is now commonly known as The Super Bowl!! And fourth NFL Championship overall!

Now, on to 2018. What will happen? When will it happen?
Well, we now that it is never, EVER, too early to rank teams:

Draft happens soon, what April?

Smith has already "been traded" to the Redskins, and they're thinking about franchising Cousins again.

The washington team should just let cousins go since they didn't want to give him a long term deal. I hope that there isn't a team willing to trade for him if they decide to franchise tag him.

If they do that Cousins still gets a lot of control. They can't trade him until he signs the tag. And, also, with his $34.5M price, it effectively means that the Redskins can't sign any free agents until they get rid of him, even if he hasn't signed.

Since the Smith "trade" isn't "official" (but probably bad form to go backsies) are they simply testing the market now to see what they can get for him?

Seems the order is as follows:
1. Find a suitor.
2. Agree to a deal.
3. Franchise Cousins.
4. Trade Cousins.
Without steps one and two, they either let him go (Smith trade goes through) or they franchise him (Smith trade doesn't go through). This seems a slightly better place to be than without the "trade" in place.

I do not think the new team has to pay the franchise tag if they get a new long term deal worked out before the deadline?

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/

Of the teams in the top 10 in cap, the Rams and the Titans made the playoffs and have their core players in place. Rams need to resign Aaron Donald which will cost them a boatload. Titans need more help at LB, DB and WR.

Vikings need a franchise QB, but have the money to spend. Saints need to resign Brees, I guess?

Jaguars will have plenty of cap once they cut a few players that are overpaid.

Texans are interesting as well if Watson can continue to progress and their defense gets healthy.

Eagles are over the cap, but will probably cut a few veterans that are overpaid (or re-negotiate).

Free agency starts in about a month.
