While the advertised plan is $15/mo (getting 200 min talk + 500 texts + 0.5GB for this price), you can easily use their flip-phone cards ($20 for 90 days) to keep service (adding 60 min talk) and simply add 1000 texts ($5) and/or 1GB data ($10) as needed.

Cost of the phone can vary, but no worse than what you're currently considering.
Yeah, that would work well for me right now. But my wife (and now her brother) are on my plan, and they'd both do better with FI.
Also less hassle.

I'm happy with my fi plan. My first year my bill was usually about $30+ fees, but lately I've been surfing when away from wifi so I've been closer to $40+ fees. If you are diligent about only using data when wifi is available you can keep your bill in the low $20s.

While perhaps the networks used aren't quite as good as Verizon or AT&T, using wifi for calls has been a big plus for me. Both the big carriers have weak signals at my house and fi works great. Was also just on vacation in an area with weak cell service but wifi available and my phone worked well when others did not.

If you decide to go with fi you should hit someone up for a referral as both you and the referrer will get $20 credit. I'd be happy to refer you if you want.

We moved on to a smart phone as many of our contacts communicate via text and texting through those flip phones are a real pain. Especially for my wife.

I mainly use my flip phone to receive the dumbass 2-factor authentication codes.

And emergency calls.

That's it.

Oh, I already have Fi-- was just buying new phones, adding an extra line, and thinking of switching.
