My annual review is all how the last 2 months have gone with my immediate supervisor. Thankfully, I'm killing it.

Club soda with a lime looks like a vodka or gin and tonic

Can you order a non-alcoholic beverage and maybe a salad (if you are a health-nut).

you sound pretty miserable. are you doing anything to improve your skills so you can move into a more analytical role once your job is automated? if you feel unhappy about not going to the social events then have you considered any solution so that you could go?

Think about which is worse:

1. Going to the social event and ordering a non-alcoholic beverage and something healthy to eat.

2. Not going at all and being the person who "isn't that social." I've actually seen someone with this label at a health insurer I temped at. At a social event holiday lunch off-site someone asked where's "X"? and the supervisor said, "X isn't that social."

This year's discussion was fun.

Boss: Nonlnear, you are great at digging deep into the hard problems and coming up with workable solutions. The main area of concern is attention to detail. When you are doing your deep dives, you sometimes let little things slip by the wayside.
Me: Sounds like I need a secretary.
Boss: Secretaries have been disappearing - except for senior management. I used to have one, and would like to have one too, so I don't see you getting one... unless you're meant to be an exec and you're just in too low of a position.
Me: Your words, not mine.

I don't think we have yearly reviews, at least for now. I setup my own meeting to set priorities for 2018...

For that reason, greater caution is called for when dealing with a stupid person than with a malicious one".
