They bought it for the Syndicate. Lloyd's is being really tough on new Managing agents and syndicates forming so the cheapest way to go is to just buy a company with a stable syndicate.

I imagine there are a lot of stealth layoffs in these acquisitions that don't get publicized. The insurance industry is suffering right now...

Allianz is selling Fireman's Fund's Personal Lines to ACE. I also read that they're moving (all?) their actuaries to Chicago.

It looks like XL will be undergoing layoffs over the next few months. Does anyone know if any actuaries will be cut?
