Default Can you tell what wood was used to smoke bacon just by tasting it?

Because I sure can't. I bought three different varieties from the same bacon maker and they all taste the same

I've wondered about that with regards to smoking meets in general. FoodTV's shows always make a big deal of what kind of wood they use. But I have no way of testing this.

How would I taste the wood? It doesn't come in the same package as the bacon.

I can sometimes tell if it was smoked with hickory. Other than that, no.

What quality of bacon are you buying?
What types of wood are you comparing?

I can definitely taste the difference.
