I hate it when an announcer says, "At the last minute, [so-and-so did such-and-such]" because, let's face it, that entire play took a lot less than a minute.

I also hate the "DAY-O!" thing the Twins (and others) do.

There's nothing like the sound of a baseball being struck by an aluminum bat.

OK, I've never been fond of Chip Caray as an announcer, so maybe I'm biased.

But tonight after six innings, Caray said that folks might want to tell there friends to tune in, since the Braves pitcher was having a "special game" (i.e., no hitter through six).

It just amazes me how many morons think that mentioning a no hitter or perfect game will jinx it. Just thinking about it pains me when I realize that I'm biologically related, on a species level, to the entire human race.

In fairness to Caray, by not mentioning it, he's avoiding backlash from all the nitwits who'd blame him for the pitcher's failure to get the no hitter. Not that that makes me feel any better.

I can't stand Chip Caray, unless I want to take a nap. Then he's really effective.

I think you're being a moran if you believe that people really believe that mentioning it will jinx it.

A Steeler Story I just heard.

Head coach Walt Kiesling (1939-44 and 1954-56) developed a habit of starting every game by running exactly the same play: "Rogel up the middle." (Fran Rogel played for the Steelers from 1950-57.) It got to the point where the fans would chant, "Hey Diddle Diddle, Rogel up the middle!" It even got to the point where the defenses stopped pretending to guard against the pass on the first play of the game.

One day, owner Art Rooney suggested to Coach Kiesling to run a play action instead. Well! Not wanting to be undermined by Rooney, Kiesling had one of his lineman intentionally go offsides so it could nullify the play. Sure enough, against the rival Cleveland Browns, quarterback Jim Finks threw a touchdown pass that was nullified by the penalty. The following play after the penalty was Rogel up the middle.

The Morans...drank and ate at the Crooked Pint Ale House in Minneapolis before driving over to the game.
no word on whether or not they got a brain.
