Default the most hated woman in america right now is an actuary!

someone posted this in discord just now. I'm reading it thinking woah, racist dog abusing bitch in central park! making white NY chicks look bad.

https://www.bet.com/news/national/20...sks-her-t.html

then i read the twitter page of the sister of the man she was calling the cops on for daring to ask her to leash her dog. chick is quickly identified as someone named Amy Cooper. Someone posts a screenshot of her linkedin. I read it. It says she's "head of insurance investment solutions at Franklin Templeton" and read further and in her about section it says "she has deep experience working with life, P&C, health and reinsurance", so i'm like THAT SOUNDS LIKE AN ACTUARY. check on the soa directory and omg it IS an Actuary!!!!

Damn, I hope she's not a CAS-credentialed actuary -- would not expect that kind of behaviour.

thankfully she surrendered the dog back to the rescue place where she got it. how she was abusing that dog upset me the most. the internet was contacting the recue place, but she had already surrendered him.

Wow.

Yeah, she seems like a horrible effing racist based on that video.

Not really sure there is any charitable explanation, but I expect some of the usuals to try to come up with one.

How do these things work in the US?

Doesn't the SOA have a character component to their qualifications?

Here in the UK she could be reported for that.

pretty sure the SOA does too. it is likely something on the code of conduct.

someone linked to her employers website on twitter. I think so many people are going to the page that it's crashing or something. I can't get on it.

I don't think the SOA nor CAS has their own code of conduct, but in the US the AAA would apply.

Precept 1: An Actuary shall act honestly, with integrity and competence, and in a manner to fulfill the profession’s responsibility to the public and to uphold the reputation of the actuarial profession. https://www.actuary.org/sites/defaul...onduct.8_1.pdf

That last part if kinda a "catchall", but IMHO it still should apply to professional activities only. Not sure if it's even been made clear whether it's supposed to be limited in such a way.

Haven't seen the video, but have seen discussion of it. Would have to be extremely bad for me to believe that the code of conduct should apply to this activity, given it's not actuarial in nature.
