Thing is, we know if he were to say "virus," we'd all know what he was talking about. No need to add "Chinese" to it. Yet, he cannot help himself. Why not, one asks, already knowing the answer.
I agree with the implication that Trump is a racist, based on other things he's done, but I find it hypocritical that we are pausing to offer Chinese people deference by not calling this "Chinese virus" in the early stages of it's identification while we never had this concern with viruses that plagued African countries or other places. Maybe I need to do more googling, but I've never seen anyone in media suggest those names were racist.

Did someone change those from an accepted name in order to score political points?

Iíd be fine with still calling it the Wuhan virus, fwiw.

Same. Calling it the Chinese virus out of ignorance is not necessarily racist, but many using that term do seem to have racist intent. Wuhan does not to me, nor do any of the above terms.

Here's a KC elected official that suggests KC doesn't have a problem with the virus like Italy does because KC doesn't have many Chinese people around.

I can understand not wanting to give their lying, evil government the benefit of the doubt. But I concede that it's also not fair to lump the whole ethnicity in with that righteous hatred of their Communist party. So for the sake of the innocents, I'll stick to the scientific name.

Thatís what these people would like you to think. Yes, it is indeed true that the virus has originated in China. When the president scratches out his prepared remarks calling it ďcoronavirusĒ and instead writes ďChinese virus,Ē heís trying to say something about China and Chinese people. Itís the insistence that makes it racist.

Yeah, I see what Lucy and you and others were saying now. I'll be good and stick to the scientific name.
