Default Chicago to Paris

If my travel were between Jan 31 and Feb 8, I could take WOW AIR and fly for $360 but I could only bring the bag that goes under the seat. No free snacks or water or anything. (I'll bring some food with me and pay for water) Or I could pay $673 and take IcelandAir and have a snack and carry-on luggage.

Would you pay $300 less to spend a week in France with only your brown leather satchel full of stuff by your side? Or would that be too spartan for you?

You don't plan on bringing anything back, so it's mostly an issue of how much clothes and other paraphernalia you bring with. Both flights go through Iceland and the cheaper flight takes an extra hour layover but that isn't a real consideration either. Total trip time is about 11 hours.

One airline allows you only a bag under the seat, the other allows a bag under the seat plus one in the overhead compartment, but neither allows any checked bags?

how much is it to ship a bag to the hotel? How much is it to buy some underclothes at your destination (I can re-wear pants/sweaters before washing, but not socks/underwear)?

What do you plan on doing? Do you want to go to some nice restaurants? Or just walk around?

One of my first thoughts . . . and wonder if checked baggage was simply an added cost for the "cheaper" option.

Iíd find a laundromat, or rent a flat on AirBnB with a washing machine. Iíve done both and itís not a big deal. For $300 Iíd figure something out to make a small backpack work.

I don't think you really need a backpack or anything like that for clothes:

I mean, I could pay a lot more for a bag. But I would just be walking around, not going to fancy restaurants. I would be inclined to stuff one change of clothes in that bag and go Rick Steves style and rinse my stuff in the sink if I had to. I can easily wear something for more than a day. And let's face it if I only have 2 changes of clothes, and I have to wear one to the laundromat to be decent - that doesn't leave much laundry to do.

Now I just have to find a cheap place to leave my car in Chicago...

They sell pillow cases you can stuff clothes in side. I believe they will allow you a pillow in addition to small bag.

Here's one. There's one that's a neck pillow but their website is really buggy.
