I honestly think this forum is being targeted by the Chinese government or some wannabe patriots. I've ran into this before when I was an international grad student in the U.S. There are multiple Chinese government backed groups operating in the U.S. some are buying politicians others are fighting Hong Kong dissidents (read up on the fights between Chinese and Hong Kong university students in Canada and Australia). They had some groups out to bash the Dalai Lama when I saw him speak at the University of Michigan several years ago.

Not sure why they're seen that way, you should ask somebody that sees them that way if you want an answer. I don't think you'll find anybody here that feels that way, so maybe try r/journalistsareamazing

But one thing that you can rely on, is that when government goes to arrest journalists, anywhere in the world, it has little to do with "we're just trying to correct these journalists who are lying while the government is being completely honest". In fact, the norm is that government is lying regardless, and when they go to arrest the journalists it's because they've upped the ante.

TBF, I don't think Red China 1960 is very relevant for expectations of Red China 2020.

But they still have an authoritarian government and control their own media, so the expectation that they have an independent media reporting on what's going on is unfounded. The message and official numbers are whatever the government says.

Yeah, I'm not sure why we need to go back to 1960 when we can literally go back to December and January when they put on a full-court press to cover up what was going on in Wuhan.

After all, it worked perfectly in China. ZERO new cases for days now over there.

And the US has 1/4 of its population size. It should be much easier, no?
1. The US can't get donations of supplies from around the world as the world is now busy with their own problems.
2. Zero cases is absolutely bullshit unless they are shooting sick people on site. There should be at a minimum family members or residents of the same households or medical professionals still getting sick as they are in contact with the infected. Zero is obvious bullshit.
3. A country of people cowed by a repressive authoritarian regime that actively attempts to control every aspect of the human lives that occur within its reach obviously has a bit more control over the behavior of the individual citizens.

What is the incentive to tell the truth?

Trump lies all the time. why would you expect the Chinese government to be the ones to tell the truth?

is it just me that sees the rate of confirmed cases decreasing in the US? from 35% in the early weeks to 20-25% in the last week? Is it lack of testing or quarantine working? or both? Deaths is somewhat less clear.
