Default Year non-specific, Team non-specific BASEBALL Thread

For links and discussion and whatnot.

First up: http://mrphilroth.com/mlbpayrolls/

Graphically and animatedly displays MLB team payrolls over time. Click on a team to see what players made up what proportion of their payroll year-to-year, and what players are signed (and for how much) into the future.

Greg Maddux is the best overall pitcher of all time

Pedro Martinez at his best was the best pitcher of all time

Roger Clemens could have been the best, but he gets docked for d-baggery

if you buy him a few of those nice IPA's, it won't be a finger he wags in your face.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Can't get to that graph. I'm sure it's nice.

Read an old SI that stated the game was becoming less exciting due to K's and BB's per PA going up. I.e., fewer balls in play or out of the park.
I respond that the game has never been all that exciting.
The article also stated that this change is due to plate appearers getting stronger, such that balls in play were being where the fileders were not. Only way to combat this is to pitch to points where the bat will not make contact with the ball (Cutters, etc.). I agree with that. It's pretty much where the game was going to get to. Steroids merely made this evolution happen a lot faster.

Do the Yankees really only have 5 players signed for next year?
