Default Democrat Lawmaker Proposes Bill to Make Spanking Children Under 3 Illegal

Here's the Yahoo article

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070119...n_070119202053

Typical Democrat move - take away parental authority b/c the state knows best. Not all Dems would support this, but it's something that you'd expect to originate with the party that has the leftist fringe as its base.

There are times it is appropriate to spank children under three - depends on the parents and the child.

Hell yeah. Just like there are times where it's appropriate for a man to beat his wife. I'm with you, I wish the damn state would just stay out of the home.

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - A California lawmaker says she has proposed a law that would make spanking a small child a crime to be punished by jail time or a fine.

...

"I think it's pretty hard to argue you need to beat a child three years old or younger," said Lieber, who plans to introduce the bill next week.
I think she needs to make up her mind.

Is it also assumed that the children are going to dial 911 and tell the cops every time such an incident happen?

Hello Mr Republican.

You could have said 'Californian lawmaker' - it would have made the same point, but your bias would have been a little less evident.

Carry on now.

Yeah, try to make your bias less evident. The way Sir-What's-His-Number does. Insert rolly eye thing.

Huh? My theory was that it was wrong to spank kids over 7, because you ought to be able to discipline them in more sophisticated ways, like not allowing them to watch a TV show, or giving them extra chores. But really little kids don't connect "now" with "then" well enough for that to be effective. I suppose it would be stupid (or vicious) to spank a tiny baby, since they aren't really capable of doing anything "wrong", but two year olds certainly are. I would have thought 2 was the prime age for spanking, unless you oppose all spanking. In which case, why not just try to ban all spanking?

This proposal is absurd. If anything, this would probably encourage some people to spank children older than 3. Who spanks kids anyways? Doesn't that fall under child abuse?
