OK, my approach of "watching what I eat", exercising, and not stepping on the scale, isn't really working.

I got a new scale and am redoubling the exercise effort, and counting WW points, and we'll see how this week goes. I weighed in; it was scary. Then I weighed on old scale and figured out the difference, and I set a preliminary goal weight which has me losing 12.8 lbs. I need to lose a lot more (probably more like 30, but I'd settle for 20) but I'm trying not to stress about it.

I think my goal will be to lose this weight by my kids Spring Break, so that I can actually fit into the cute spring clothes I bought a couple years ago, when I was at the lower weight. That gives me 7 weeks.

My 11yo daughter is also trying to lose weight (ok'd by her dr.) To help her, I'm planning to really focus on the exercise, which is what the dr. suggested. DH is also joining us, somewhat half-heartedly. (He wants to lose 50 lbs, but he doesn't want to put in the effort.) As for the little one, we are just hoping she will pick up some good habits, and maybe add a few more fruits and veggies to the short list of foods she actually eats. (One of those air diet kids--don't know how she survives.)

Stuck to my, uh, nutrition plan (I hate the word diet) 2 days in a row. Don't know when the last time was that I did that.

Worked out two days in a row. Back on my Couch to 5K program (did that yesterday). Tomorrow I'll try Week 4 day 1. 5 minutes of running. ACK! Back in August, I couldn't even run for two minutes. (Although you could hardly call my running running. It is quite the slow motion. I just tell myself I'm focusing on form--yeah, that's it...)

Got my kid up off her HOWEVER (we don't use the b-word) on Monday but was unsuccessful yesterday. Tonight she has dance though, and tomorrow she is on her own.

you can run and mix in walking if you are getting too winded.

if you need 5 min of running, run for 2, walk for 2, repeat. it needn't be non-stop (although you should be working towards that) as long as it isn active rest between the runs. so no just sitting-keep moving.

if you can work the point and the exercise, it will work really well.

That's actually what the couch to 5K program does. It gradually moves towards more running and less walking. If you follow it exactly, you can go through the program in 8 weeks.

As I have never been a runner in my life, I'm taking it very slow. I first tried in August & couldn't get through day 1. I put myself on a strict walking program and tried again the 1st of October. Between then and now I had a number of setbacks, many of which involved my running partner, who is no longer my running partner. (We are still married, but apparently running is not his sport.) Since December I have made gradual progress. Basically I do each workout three times over a week's period, but if I still feel like I am going to die at the end of it, then I stay on that "week" until I don't feel like I am going to die any more. Then I move on to the next week.

I don't think I've lost any weight, but I haven't gained any since starting this, and I'm only now adding a stricter diet component. I was trying to just "eat healthy" without tracking food or a scale, but that wasn't getting me anywhere (as far as I know, since I wasn't tracking) and I wasn't being honest with myself, so now I have the scale.

Yesterday was the hardest day so far. Oh, the cravings. I really wanted a big chocolate chip cookie, but there were none to be had. Reviewing my food journal, I think I just didn't eat enough earlier in the day. I ended up having some fruit and some milk, and still came in well under my 1500 calorie goal.

This morning I had a banana along with my morning oatmeal. I think milk would have been better, and I may have some later.

Down 1 lb for the week. Sticking with my 1500 calorie max this week, but trying to ensure I get 16 oz of milk a day. Also trying to cut consumption of diet coke to 1/day. Exercise goal same as last week: 2.5 hrs total.

There is some evidence that consumption of low-fat dairy foods assists weight loss. It's a somewhat controversial claim, but if you don't have problems with dairy and stick to the low fat stuff in moderate quanties, it can't hurt . . .

i suggest family activities on the weekends and evenings. as a kid, we used to play outside (tag, badminton, baseball, tennis, swimming, whatever), take bicycle rides in the neighborhood, go to the park, etc.

(we lived in a gated community with a clubhouse and a lake, so made it kinda easy for these activities.)
