Speaking on behalf of the "official" arbiter of top 50 lists, I believe that if you hadn't started on it again today, it could've gone into the pile of "works-in-progress" (lists we never finished but can go back to at any time IF we want). A new list can be started either 1) upon the completion of the previous list OR 2) the beginning of a new workday, regardless of whether the previous list was completed.

It is also acceptable to declare BEFORE starting a new list that it will not be a top 50 list, but only a top 30 or top 25 list. If not otherwise specified, any list will be assumed to have a target of 50 entries and will not be deemed completed until that target is reached or exceeded.
